This article critically analyzes recent transformations observed in Brazilian private higher education related to the commodification of education, the platformization of learning, and the incorporation of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. Using a qualitative, critical, and documentary approach, grounded in a systematic literature review, thematic analysis, and examination of institutional documents, the study investigates how these phenomena have been interpreted in the specialized literature and what impacts they may have on pedagogical mediation, the relationship with knowledge, and the meanings of university education. The results indicate the existence of tensions between rationalities oriented towards efficiency, satisfaction, and scalability, and perspectives committed to intellectual development, critical autonomy, and teacher mediation. It concludes that the debates on commodification, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence express broader disputes about the purposes of the university and its social role in contemporary democratic education.
